Fairfax County Hosts Free Recycling Events

Fairfax County will host three free recycling events for residents to bring old and unwanted materials this month.

The Household Hazardous Waste Clean-Up Event will take place March 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South County Center. This event is for disposing of hazardous materials generated within households in Fairfax County. The county will not accept business or commercial waste, automotive batteries, propane tanks, or lead acid batteries. Electronics will not be accepted. For a complete list of accepted household items, please visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/recycling.

Electric Sunday takes place March 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the I-95 Landfill Complex in Lorton. Residents may recycle electronics including old televisions, computers, scanners, printers, unbroken fluorescent tubes and light bulbs.

The Secure Document Shredding Event will take place on March 31 from 8 a.m. until noon at the South County Center. Residents may shred up to 5 boxes of personal documents per household at no cost. Be sure to remove any binder clips, plastic page covers and bindings. Paper should be removed from binders. All documents will be securely shredded with a private contractor and the material will be taken to another facility for processing.

For more information about these events, please visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/recycling or call the Recycling InfoLine at 703-324-5052, TTY 711.

I used to attend the PC-Recycler.net recycling events, but those were incredibly far. Thank goodness Fairfax County provides similar recycling events. It is good to offer these events locally because it makes it easy for residents to recycle. Thanks!
