Mount Vernon Girl Scout Leader Celebrates 20 Years of Service

Mount Vernon Resident Deb Kempton is finishing up her twentieth year of Girl Scout leadership. Kempton is the leader of Brownie Troop 2822 and co-leader of Senior Troop 849.

Over the last 20 years as a Girl Scout leader, she has gone on countless camping trips, sang hundreds of songs and helped the girls sell many thousands of boxes of cookies to raise funds for the scout troops, More importantly, she has taught hundreds of girls life skills that build courage, confidence and character and help make the world a better place, one Girl Scout at a time.

She has led troops in all levels of Girl Scouts from Daisies to Seniors, and has raised her own daughters to be Girl Scout volunteers.

Troop 2822 has been learning new and traditional Girl Scout songs and will converge on the National Mall in Washington, DC on June 9for “Rock the Mall”, part of the Girl Scout’s 100 Birthday Celebration.  The event is expected to draw more than 200,000 registered Girl Scouts and guests for what has been dubbed the world’s largest sing-along.
