Allen Leads Large Campaign Donations in Mount Vernon
Senate candidate Allen dominates fundraising in his hometown.
The U.S. Senate race between Tim Kaine (D) and George Allen (R) is neck-and-neck both in the polls and in campaign funds raised from Virginia residents.
During the most recent filing period, which ran from May 24 to June 30, Kaine raised $667,000 in donations of $200 or more from Virginians, according to the Virginia Public Access Project, which compiles its data from the Center for Responsive Politics.
Allen raised less, with $409,000, according to the data.
Allen outraised Kaine in the Mount Vernon area, where residents in the 22309 ZIP code donated $53,550 to Allen’s campaign and $7,500 to Kaine’s.
In overall fundraising, Kaine is hanging onto a narrow lead with $3.6 million compared to Allen’s $3.5 million in Virginia, in donations of $200 or more from Virginians.
The above data does not include donations from PACs, non-Virginia residents or small donors.
