Car fire on Richmond Highway shuts down service road Thursday afternoon.

A driver near the 8100 block of Richmond Highway in Mount Vernon Thursday afternoon tried to put out a car fire with a fire extinguisher. The southbound service road was closed near Elsie's Magic Skillet.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue as well as Fairfax County Police responded to the fire. Firefighters helped put out the car fire in the parking lot at a local Mobil gas station in Mount Vernon.
It did not appear that anyone was injured.
