G-Mart International Foods will be opening in the storefront previously occupied by the Bottom Dollar Foods in the Woodlawn Shopping Center.

A banner on the storefront reads "G-Mart International Foods Coming Soon." The shop is located at 8750 Richmond Hwy. in Mount Vernon.

Bottom Dollar closed in early 2012 as part of Delhaize America's decision to close six underperforming Bottom Dollar locations. Delhaize America runs several grocery store chains in North America, including Food Lion, Bloom and Sweetbay Supermarkets.

No objections to the prospective tenant, but the present shopping center adds to the visual blight of the MV district. Just a bit of freshening up and a few plantings would do wonders.

This type of store won't do well in Mt. Vernon.

Is it like H Mart in Falls Church?

They've got them in North Carolina. Yes, akin to H-Mart or El Grande in Springfield. No reason to think it won't do well here, though that shopping center is in desperate need of a makeover.

I agree, that shopping center needs some serious work. Big fan of the new Little Cesar's though!

I'm glad someone is willing to invest in a new supermarket in the Woodlawn area. But if the location was too small for BOTTOM DOLLAR, I wonder how it will work any better for G-MART? Unless they expand their square footage. The area already has a BESTWAY Supermercado, so adding a second Hispanic/Asian grocery store could be challenging. Supermarkets today depend on volume, which requires increased square footage -- look at the just re-opened & expanded SAFEWAY in Belle View.

I believe G-mart well do extremely well. My husband and I drive to H-Mart in Fairfax City to shop because the seafood and produce are of great quality and the prices are fantastic.

Agreed with Holli, we do at least one weekly trip to the Great Wall supermarket in Gallows road for its Asian/Chinese produce mainly, plus the lunch/diner over at Great Wall is really authentic, I hope this G-Mart will have an authentic Koren/Chinese/Asian food court, size does not matter.
