Georgia Barbeque in Mount Vernon
Eight years ago Shane chucked his corporate job and opened a barbecue shack in Georgia. Now he has franchises all over the globe. And it's no wonder - them ribs are good.

There are a handful of barbeque places in the Mount Vernon area and even more American cuisine restaurants that can't help but put barbeque on the menu. That doesn't mean they're good, just plentiful.
And speaking of plenty, that's the other danger. Some people figure that quantity suffices for quality every time. It doesn't. I've left very few restaurants hungry, especially not barbeque joints. So don't pile mediocre food in front of me; I'll eat if it's good.
Shane's Rib Shack is one of a handful of restaurants in the Mount Vernon Plaza complex. Most are second-tier franchises (Noodles & Co., Moe's, Cold Stone), so the dining can be hit or miss. Shane's is a very good barbeque restaurant franchise yet has maintained its quality and service well.
Dining in is a pleasant experience; the room is set up so couples and singles can enjoy their food alongside families with little ones swarming. Service is prompt and take-out is also very quick. There are always specials going on, as well as discounts for veterans and Kids Eat Free days on Saturday and Sunday.
Beyond the service and atmosphere and specials, the ribs are the reason to go. There are some pretty heavy-hitting barbeque places on Richmond Highway, but Shane's is the crowd favorite. The wings are also very good as is the pulled pork. The chicken tenders are big, crispy and delicious white meat you can plunk in the sauce of your choice. But the barbeque chicken isn't worth the effort; there are too many other good things on the menu to pick.
As for the sides, you can't go too wrong but the standouts are the baked beans, Brunswick stew, mac and cheese and cole slaw.
