Glad not to live there any more, unfortunately this entire country has gone down the drain. Truly a sad day.

Many of us residing in Mount Vernon still like living here and rather like the demographic shift that in 2008 and 2012 resulted in electing more progressive candidates. Maybe with the changing population dynamics occurring along the Richmond highway corridor, the status quo outcomes of past elections primarily decided by voters in the precincts east of Richmond Highway will field new candidates that focus equal attention on both the corridor and the surrounding communities rather than just the well off neighborhoods. A joyous day in the view of this reader. America is living up to its promise to create a more perfect union for all of its citizens not just for those few that thought only some citizens were deserving of the guarantees and protections of our constitution.

Wow - I had no idea in our area the focus of our tax dollars was on the 'well off ' neighborhoods and that those of us on the 'east' side of Route 1 decided elections. What world do you live in Martin? The massive amount of people living in the housing projects and other places off route one are what fills are schools with over 50, 60, or 70%% of ESL kids who need extra attention and resources to get them semi proficient to be in class with people who speak english, recieve free lunch, and make up the majority of the focus from our area's tax dollars as well as decide the elections because they are simply the 99% monolithic block that the democratic elites use to get the votes to do their bidding and pokcet leing of their friends. Guys like Moran survive from the votes from these people who know nop better about how corrupt he is and just see the D that they have learned means more free stuff for them. It is sad.
Those of us who work, and own houses on the 'east' side of route 1 just foot the bills for liberal insanity with our property taxes and get not much in return for our tax dollars.

Well Scott, Lets begin with parks and recreation facilities. There is an admitted shortfall on the Route 1 corridor leading to both Supervisors acknowledging as much when meeting with Route 1 residents on the lack of playing fields. Citizens east of Route 1 say we want a new park and the county spends millions to acquire a property on Fort Hunt Road ( Lamond property). People east of Route 1 want a place to walk their dogs and bingo a fast track off leash dog park on Fort Hunt Road. People living in some areas of Mount Vernon evidently do have sway it would seem in the apportioning of such resources with our local elected officials and Park Authority officials. The cry for more such facilities on the Route 1 Corridor is not getting the priority or consideration given to the examples provided.
In my view you get more return for your tax dollars than you care to acknowledge. I own and pay taxes on a home in a neighborhood on the Route 1 corridor as do many others and we see less in return for our tax dollars than those neighborhoods east of Route 1 with recreation centers, libraries, playing fields, community/ neighborhood parks, hiking/cycling trails, and doggy parks.
You make it sound like the people living east of Route 1 are the only ones paying taxes knowing full well that such an idea is a misconception. Poor people pay taxes and are as equally deserving of the infrastructure and quality of life benefits that improve our communities and neighborhoods.
