Mount Vernon High School Basketball Stars Celebrate Commitment on NCAA Signing Day

Mount Vernon High School basketball players Taylor Dunham, Kelly Loftus, and Tiffany Webster gathered Wednesday in the Michael Skinner field house to celebrate their commitments to play basketball in college next year.

Dunham, Loftus, and Webster have played basketball together since they were 10 years old. Seven years later, they have made great strides in the sport and have been named captains of the Lady Majors basketball team their senior year.

“They’ve grown together and created a good friendship,” Lisa Webster remarked. “They work together on and off the court. The younger girls rely on them.”

Loftus will play for Hofstra University on Long Island. Loftus led the Majors in one of its most successful seasons during her junior year. She scored 396 points, grabbing 81 rebounds and scoring in double-digits in 21 of the team’s 25 games. That same year, she earned First Team All-Northern Region, First Team All-National District and a The Washington Post All-Met honorable mention.  

The 5-foot-10 guard verbally committed to Hofstra last year, choosing the school over 15 others that showed interest.   

“It’s been a long road, needless to say,” Gwen Loftus said. “All that training, all those hours on the court have paid off. It’s always a good thing to see. We’ll be there for the long haul. Hofstra is a great fit for her.”

Tiffany Webster signed to Barton College in North Carolina.

“I’m very excited that Tiffany can live out her dream of playing basketball,” her mom, Lisa Webster, said of her daughter.

Taylor Dunham joined Loftus and Webster to celebrate her signing to the U.S. Naval Academy in April.

“We’re proud of her,” Tonya Dunham said of her daughter. “Not just about what she's accomplished in basketball, but as a person.”
