Historic Mount Vernon unveiled George Washington's annotated copy of the Acts of Congress and his first draft of the Constitution on Monday, marking the first time both documents will be on display in the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center together.

The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association acquired the Acts of Congress at an auction at Christie's in June.

“Returning Washington’s copy of the Constitution home to Mount Vernon is a very momentous occasion,” Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association Regent Ann Bookout said in a statement. “The Acts of Congress is one of the most important pieces of personal and intellectual property that ever graced Washington’s private book shelves.”

George Washington’s first draft of the Constitution will also be on display through Oct. 29. The Acts of Congress will be on display through the national observance of George Washington’s birthday on February 18, 2013.
