Mount Vernon High School senior Mitchell Paradis was awarded with Honorable Mention in the US Rowing Scholastic Honor Roll.
Mitchell has been rowing for three years and is a member of the Mount Vernon High School crew team. He has rowed at Dartmouth and UVA.
Mom Lisa Paradis told Patch that rowing is a time-consuming sport, and Mitchell is able to balance crew and school.
“I’m very proud of him,” mom Lisa Paradis told Patch. “He’s a great independent student who works very hard without being nagged. Rowing is a sport that takes up a lot of time.”
The Mount Vernon High School crew team is a club team that is not recognized by Fairfax County. Because of this, team members and parents must raise funds for boats and equipments.
The US Rowing award was given to members of the class of 2013 who held a minimum of a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Recipients were required to be an active rowing participant for at least one year. More than 200 nominations were received from 94 rowing clubs.
