Friends, colleagues, and students shared their memories of Woodlawn Stables co-owner Joan Mitchell at a memorial gathering Thursday night at the stables.
Mitchell, 70, passed away on Sunday night. She is remembered by many friends and colleagues as a "pillar of a woman," a woman dedicated to nurturing her students and instilling the value of hard work, dedication, and a love of horses in each one.
A memorial Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church today (Friday) at 1:30 p.m.

Mrs. Mitchell was an amazing person. I remember her at my first lesson, teaching me how to put the bridle on Flash. She will be missed.
