Photos: Rebuilding Together Helps Local Woman
Local firefighters and volunteers constructed a ramp for a resident Wednesday.
Nina Snyder of Hybla Valley has had a tough time leaving her home.
Snyder is disabled and unable to leave her home without assistance. In order to get to doctors' appointments and visit family, she would call her local fire station throughout the week to help her leave her home.
The firemen respond to this public service need when called, but to help Snyder gain independence to leave her home on her own, they decided, on their day off, to find a way to build her a ramp.
On Wednesday, firefighters from Shift A from Mount Vernon Fire Station and volunteers and staff from Rebuilding Together constructed a ramp for Snyder.
Rebuilding Together-Arlington-Fairfax-Falls Church teamed up with the firemen to design the ramp and found funding from Navy Federal Credit Union to cover the cost of the materials and supplies.
"It's just marvelous," Snyder said, observing the construction from her front door Wednesday afternoon.
About 16 volunteers dedicated their time Wednesday to construct the ramp.
Rebuilding Together-AFF is a non-profit organization serving low-income homeowners and non-profit organizations in the community by providing critically needed home repairs and modifications.

Great story! This is community in action. There should be more of this...from everyone.
