Poll Shows Kaine With Nine-Point Lead Over Allen In Senate Race

Another poll shows Allen leading Kaine by a similar margin.

The edge in Virginia's U.S. Senate election this November continues to seesaw between each party's expected nominee.

An NBC News/Marist poll released Sunday shows Democrat Tim Kaine with a nine-point lead over Republican George Allen, 48 percent to 39 percent, in the expected matchup this November to replace retiring Sen. Jim Webb (D).

Just last week the Roanoke College Poll showed Allen leading Kaine by eight points, 45 percent to 37 percent.

Kaine was in Huntington on Feb. 26 to open the Virginia Democrats' coordiniated campaign headquarters on North Kings Highway.

Despite two separate polls showing each candidate with a wide margin, strategists from both parties believe the race to be relatively even, The Washington Post reported Monday.

Both men are former Virginia governors. Kaine served as chairman of the Democratic National Convention from the beginning of President Obama's term through April 2011, and Allen was in the U.S. Senate prior to losing his seat to Webb in 2006.

Please advise as to the utility of carrying the results of such polls, given that the PRIMARIES have not even yet occurred. While this is the most-likely matchup, it is NOT a done deal.
