Readers’ Choice: Vote for Your Favorite Free Local Summer Activity
Tell us about the best local — and free — summer activities.
Where do you like to take your family for a bit of free summer fun in our area?
Patch is asking you, your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and anyone else who knows about our town’s hot spots and hidden gems to nominate the best spots in Mount Vernon Patch.
Only one can be crowned the Patch Readers’ Choice Best Free Local Summer Activity.
We're taking a readers' suggestion and adding a few of our own. Here are the nominees for Best Free Summer Activity:
- Listening to a concert at Grist Mill Park, Workhouse and Fort Hunt
- Picnicking at Fort Hunt Park
- Hiking or biking down the Mount Vernon Trail
Voting starts right now! We'll continue voting through Aug. 17 and crown a winner on Aug. 24. Thanks for participating, and be sure to sign up for the Mount Vernon Patch newsletter to find out when voting starts so you can support your favorite institution in the Readers' Choice contest.

Definitely, the free concerts in the parks. One can hike/bike year round on the Mount Vernon Trail or pinic in Fort Hunt Park during most of the year, but I always look forward to the concerts during the three months of summer. It's a high-light of the parks that we can enjoy year round.
