Rising Hope United Methodist Church was recently honored by the Methodist Federation for Social Action at the Annual Conference of the Virginia United Methodist Church.

The Church was awarded the Bishop Leontine Kelly Peace and Justice Award for its work helping the most disadvantaged people on the Route 1 corridor. The church was founded 16 years ago and began in the back of Reverend Keary Kincannon's car. The church moved multiple times until it settled in its current location in Mount Vernon seven years ago.

Rising Hope serves the needs of thousands of people along the Route 1 corridor by providing services including a food pantry, clothing closet, soup kitchen, recovery programs, and a hypothermia shelter.
