UPDATE: Woodbridge Man Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting

A Fairfax County Police Department officer shot a man who shot at police after a brief foot chase late Sunday night.

UPDATE July 9, 10:05 p.m.: Fairfax County Police have identified the suspect killed in Sunday night's officer-involved shooting in Mount Vernon.

Nicholas Allen Kaebler, 21, of 2803 Wakewater Way in Woodbridge was killed in the shooting near the intersection of Frye Road and Madge Lane, Potomac Local reports.

Potomac Local reported that Kaelber appeared in a Manassas courtroom facing charges of marijuana possession, and possession of a concealed weapon. Proscecuters were unwilling to pursue the charges.

UPDATE July 9, 12:40 p.m.: The Fairfax County Police Department is still investigating the officer-involved shooting that occurred around 11:20 Sunday night that left one person dead.

The two officers involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative leave, according to a statement from the police department. The deceased’s identity is not yet available for release.

"All information provided in this release is based on preliminary investigation and may be subject to revision as the investigation continues," read a statement from the police department.

A Fairfax County Police Department officer was involved in a shooting in Mount Vernon around 11:30 Sunday night, NBC Washington is reporting this morning.

Police reportedly saw two men acting suspiciously near the intersection of Frye Road and Madge Lane in the Mount Vernon area. When police approached, the suspects fled, NBC Washington reported. Police caught up with one of the suspects, who fired at police. Police returned fire and the suspect died at a hospital.

The second suspect is still being sought.

The roads in that area will open shortly as police conclude their investigation. 

Police were also involved in a shooting in the Mount Vernon area while trying to serve a warrant.
