Black Friday — the day after Thanksgiving — seems to start earlier every year. Stores (big and small) offer huge discounts, and crowds wait for hours for the doors to open. And when they do, watch out for a stampede.
Tony Walter, a waiter at Busboys and Poets in Shirlington, will spend Thanksgiving evening shopping at the Walmart on Richmond Highway and the Target store at Potomac Yard.
"I'm shopping for me, and I already know exactly what I'm getting," Walter told Patch. "I only started doing this last year, because I had the extra cash and I realized that I could get a 40-inch flatscreen television at Walmart for $200 and an all-in-one printer for $35."
Walter, 27, hopes to buy an Xbox 360 with a wired Internet connection ($229) and an iPod Touch ($195, and it comes with a $40 gift card) from Walmart, which opens at 9 p.m., and a Blue Ray player ($39) and a Nook Color ($99) from Target, which opens at 10 p.m.
"I'll start buying stuff for other people in December, because my parents don't use updated electronics," said Walter. "They don't even have a DVD player."

I picked up an iPad at Walmart last night at 10PM, it was only $399 and it came with a $75 gift card. It is a present for my 13 year old daughter. This morning at 5AM, I picked up a 3000 watt generator for $199 at Home Depot, that will come in handy during the common power outages in our area.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to participate in any black Friday deals, but I still love looking at the ads because they give me great inspiration for things to add to my wishlist.

No one! If the merchant can sell their products at very reduced prices - they can afford to sell those same products year around! Or else they are selling cheaper products that they are touting as "the" name product. The buyer so happy to get what they want, that they do not pay attention that they are not getting what the merchant says they are selling. Let the BUYER BEWARE!

Unless there is a specific item you need for sale at a huge discount, I don't think it's worth it to endure the crowds on Black Friday. It's unpleasant to circle for a parking space, bump your way through the wall-to-wall people in the store, and then wait in a huge check-out line for who knows how long.
