Just one year ago, we asked our friends and colleagues to set aside one morning each year to Run for a Child – rain or shine – and support Fairfax CASA volunteers as they advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in our community. Our compassionate supporters rose to the occasion again this year and made the second annual Run for the Children a tremendous success!
In the two years that we have held the Fairfax CASA Run for the Children 10K/3K, more than 2,000 individuals have run, walked, volunteered, donated, or otherwise supported the most vulnerable children in this community. You have brought friends, parents, grandparents, and children; you have spread the word about our work; and your participation has helped us to raise more than $80,000!
To me, the Run for the Children represents something we should all experience – a special time to gather with friends and family and enjoy being a part of our community. I felt great support from our Fairfax CASA “family” as I looked out at the smiling crowd on race day April 28. It was a delight to see the proud faces of each young child as they came across the finish line and then gathered on stage to receive a Fairfax CASA Child Champion medal. And, I was thrilled to be surrounded by so many of my own family, friends, and colleagues, including judges, legislators, social workers, and attorneys.
Thanks to all you of who pledged to spend one morning each year helping us lift
up the lives of children who rarely share the joys that we take for granted. Thank you for supporting our CASA volunteers who do the hard work on the front lines – giving each abused and neglected child a voice in court, making sure they have the services they need to heal, and fighting for their placement in a safe and loving home.
