Today was a somber occasion for veterans and active duty military who took the time to remember those who have fought for our country's freedom.  The Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens honored veterans today with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Washingtons' Tomb. Steeped in tradition, this ceremony is held annually by the Estate in conjunction with the General George Washington chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Kate Waller Barrett Chapter of the Daughters ofthe American Revolution. The food was cooked to perfection, the entertainment was spot-on, and the décor was patriotic and festive.  While it may come across that way, it was not a professional event; it was a student-run Veteran's Day luncheon at Mount Vernon High School. Many veterans turned out for the event including a former Mount Vernon High School teacher and World War II vet and a man who spent more than seven years as a P.O.W. in Vietnam. Over the last week, residents in communities across the United States have celebrated Veterans Day through a variety of events, from special ceremonies and events to parades. Following tradition, Washington Mill Elementary School (WMES) joined the rest of the country in paying tribute to veterans by hosting its annual Veterans Day Breakfast last Thursday. Puller, Jr., today when officials will name a veterans' legal clinic after the Vietnam War Marine officer and Pulitzer Prize winner. "Lewis B.
