Our mission is to promote literacy, life-long learning, and understanding by distributing donated new and used books of all types; movies; music and instructional compact discs; audiobooks and other forms of media to organizations serving economically, socially, or physically disadvantaged communities and individuals.

Books for America has partnered with Federal Realty Investment Trust to place our book collection bins on thirteen of its retail center properties in Northern Virginia. The DC metro underserved populations will greatly benefit from the books we will collect at these new donation locations. FRIT properties that are now hosting the bins include locations in Alexandria, Springfield, Falls Church, Fairfax, McLean and Leesburg. To find exact locations of bins please visit our website at www.booksforamerica.org.

Books for America’s warehouse is located at 3829 Pickett Road in Fairfax.  Books, music CDs, movies (DVDs & VHS) and audiobooks can be dropped off Monday through Friday 9am – 4pm.  Home pickup service is available for 75 or more books.  All types of books are needed – children’s books are especially needed, but the organization also needs adult books including fiction, history, cookbooks, art, etc. Every topic is needed, with the caveat that the books must be in excellent condition and reasonably recent.
