Mount Vernon Business Helps Residents in Need of Auto Care

Honest-1 Auto Care's new initiative ensures low-income residents can stay on the road.

Honest-1 Auto Care of Mount Vernon has launched a new initiative to help residents in need keep their cars running.

The Helping Hands initiative is a monthly donation of $200 in auto services for a local resident in need. The initiative was developed by co-owners Sudhakar Tammireddi and his wife, Veni, to give back to community members in need.

“I came up with the idea because we are located in a location where you see a lot of people who have cars, but may be on food stamps or community assistance,” Sudhakar said. “Everyone needs a car to go out in and I wanted to do something for the community.”

Tammireddi approached the community service agencies on Route 1, who were enthusiastic about the idea and agreed to refer clients for consideration for the initiative.

Mount Vernon resident Larry Austin was the initiative’s first recipient.

“I was very impressed that anyone cares in such difficult times, and not only cares, but institutes a program that keeps true to its promises,” Austin said in a statement. “I was given an absolutely critical brake repair at no expense. It’s so touching to know that people out there are truly concerned with those in need.”

Tammireddi is committed to being a good steward of the Mount Vernon community. His store is a collection site for the Capital Area Food Bank, and he serves as a member of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce and the Alexandria Chapter of BNI.

Honest-1 Auto Care is located at 8648 Richmond Highway and is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For additional information please contact Alexandria@honest-1.com, call (571) 257-9930 or visit www.Honest1Alexandria.com.
