New HomeGoods Store Supports UCM In Grand Opening

Discount home fashion store officially opens Sunday.

HomeGoods, the country’s only major off- price store dedicated to home fashions, will open its first store in Alexandria on Sunday at 8 a.m. The 24,000 square-foot store is located at Mount Vernon Crossroads at Richmond Highway and Belford Drive.

In honor of the grand opening and to support the Alexandria community, HomeGoods will donate $5,000 to the United Community Ministries (UCM) of Alexandria, said Robyn Arvedon, spokesperson for HomeGoods.

Supporting local communities is a core value of HomeGoods, Arvedon said. “It is part of our mission to give back to those communities in which we do business,” she said. “We are happy to make a donation to United Community Ministries of Alexandria in support of their mission to provide support and services for low-income families and individuals.”

"HomeGoods’ donation will help UCM provide food, rental assistance and eviction prevention for those who are most in need in the area,” said Niki Wanner, UCM's director of development and communications. “We are thrilled that Home Goods is coming to the Route 1 Corridor, and that it has already demonstrated real support for the work of local non-profits.”

The budget-friendly sister store to TJMaxx and Marshalls has set up shop in the shopping plaza’s former AJWright location. The shopping plaza is located right off of Richmond Highway, adjacent to Gold’s Gym and close to a high-volume shopping area, Mount Vernon Plaza Shopping Center, which boasts stores including Home Depot, Bed, Bath & Beyond and Michaels.

“We are excited to bring HomeGoods and our off-price concept to Alexandria shoppers,” stated Richard Sherr, president of HomeGoods. “Consumers are more value conscious than ever, and we know that our new store will be a welcome addition because our outstanding prices on high-quality home fashions allow shoppers to affordably update their homes without sacrificing quality or style.”

HomeGoods will also support the local Alexandria community by hiring store management and associates from the area. The Alexandria store is expected to fill approximately 60 full and part-time positions.

With the addition of this store, HomeGoods will now have 12 stores in the Washington, DC area.
