Where to Buy a Powerball Ticket in Mount Vernon

Most grocery stores, convenient stores and gas stations sell tickets.

The Powerball jackpot is now up to a mind-boggling half billion dollars.

Yes, $500 million. Lottery officials say there is a 60 percent (or better) chance that someone will win in Wednesday night’s drawing for the largest Powerball jackpot ever.

Tickets are themselves a hot-ticket item. Virginia Lottery spokesman John Hagerty said the state could see $6 million in Powerball ticket sales before the Wednesday evening drawing, with sales peaking between 5 - 7 p.m. as people come home from work. 

“Powerball and Mega Million are jackpot-driven games,” Hagerty said. “When people see that jackpot increase, it drives up sales.”

Earlier this week, we showed you some of the homes in Mount Vernon and elsewhere in Northern Virginia that you could purchase with that kind of money.

But, as the old lottery slogan goes, you can’t win if you don’t play.
