UPDATE: Power Restored to About 2,000 in Fort Belvoir, Mount Vernon Area

Thunderstorms rolled through the area Friday night.

UPDATE Saturday, 7:30 a.m.: A Dominion Power map Saturday morning showed only one home near Fort Belvoir without power. All of the homes that saw their power go out likely due to a thunderstorm that rolled through Friday night should have their power restored.

Some homes in Fort Hunt and Groveton appear to still be without power Saturday morning.

UPDATE 8:30 p.m.: A Dominion Power outage map is showing more homes in the Mount Vernon area, including about 33 homes in Fort Hunt, near Parkers Lane and Fort Hunt Road, without power Friday night.

A group of more than 500 homes near Buckman Road off of Richmond Highway appear to be without power according to the map.

A severe thunderstorm has knocked out power Friday night to about 2,000 homes in the Fort Belvoir and Mount Vernon area.

According to the Dominion Power outage map, 1,023 homes are without power in and near the Fort Belvoir area; 769 homes near Richmond Highway between the Mount Vernon Country Club and Mount Vernon Memorial Highway.

Another 218 homes are without power near Richmond Highway — it appears to be between Old Mill Road and Sacramento Drive.
