Fight boredom with these fun local activities.

Celebrate George Washington's birthday this weekend with some great family-friendly activities. As an extra bonus, admission to the Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens is free on Monday, February 21. 


 Martha Movie Magic- Fantasia
  • WHAT: All ages are invited to watch Fantasia and enjoy refreshments.
  • WHEN: Wednesday, Feb. 16, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • WHERE: Martha Washington Library
  • HOW MUCH: Free but reservations are required 

Crafts for Children Age 3 and Older
  • WHAT: Good Shepherd Catholic Church provides a craft activity for children while mothers attend the church's weekly Mothers' Group meeting.
  • WHEN: Wednesdays, 9:45 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • WHERE:  
  • HOW MUCH: $2
Storytelling Sessions at Mount Vernon- George Washington's Childhood
  • WHAT: These 20-minute sessions are recommended for children ages 3 to 8.
  • WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 19 and 20, 2 p.m.
  • WHERE: 
  • HOW MUCH: Included in regular Estate admission: adults, $15.00; youth ages 6-11, $7.00; and children under 5 are admitted free 

George Washington's Surprise Birthday Party
  • WHAT: In honor of George Washington's 279th birthday, there will be special events and admission to the Estate will be free.
  • WHEN: Monday, Feb. 21, 1:30 p.m.
  • WHERE:  
  • HOW MUCH: Free
 

George Washington Birthday Parade
  • WHAT: This is the largest parade in the nation to celebrate George Washington's birthday.
  • WHEN: Monday, Feb. 21, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. 
  • WHERE: Old Town Alexandria
  • HOW MUCH: Free
