Historic Mount Vernon to Host Purple Heart Ceremony Monday

The Army will kick off the week of birthday events at the Mount Vernon Estate.

The Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens will host a birthday celebration for the Army on Monday, including a Purple Heart Ceremony to honor wounded warriors.

According to a release sent by Historic Mount Vernon, Monday's program will begin with a performance by the U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. Secretary of the Army John M. McHugh will participate in a wreathlaying ceremony at the tomb of George Washington. During a special program following the wreathlaying, McHugh will pin Purple Heart medals to wounded warriors. The U.S. Army celebrates its 238th birthday this year. 

The event will take place at Historic Mount Vernon at 10 a.m.
