Mount Vernon Could See A Wintry Mix, Snow

Snow and rain could begin overnight and could wreak havoc on the morning rush hour Tuesday.

The recent spring-like weather was nice while it lasted.

A winter weather advisory is in effect in Northern Virginia from 9 p.m. Monday through 7 a.m. Tuesday.

A “wintry mix” of snow and sleet will start to blanket the D.C. metro area by 1 a.m.  Snow and sleet accumulations are predicted to reach 2 to 5 inches. Temperatures will drop into the mid-20s Monday night, but northeast winds will make it feel a bit colder.

Tuesday morning, commuters may encounter sleet, snow or ice on the roadways. Show showers will continue Tuesday morning as temperatures rise into the mid-30s. Skies will clear in the afternoon.

As of 7:30 p.m. Monday, neither Fairfax County Public Schools nor Alexandria City Public Schools had made any announcements regarding Tuesday’s schedule. FCPS posts weather-related school information on its website at www.fcps.edu/news/emerg.htm.  Alexandria City Public Schools posts information online at http://www.acps.k12.va.us.

On Friday, the temperature at Reagan National Airport peaked at 76 degrees. The temperature at Dulles International Airport reached 74 degrees.
