Mount Vernon High School Girls Track Smashes Records at Virginia Tech

The MVHS track team broke three school records.

The Lady Majors Track and Field team had a great day at the Virginia Tech Invitational ths weekend, capping a week that included three school records and a second fastest time in school history.

En route to posting the #7 time in the state of Virginia in the 4x400 meter relay, as well as qualifying for the Virginia State Championships and New Balance Indoor National Championships, the team of Kaleigh Winner, Alliyah Stevens, Jasmine Hill and Bria Patnett demolished the old school record with a new time of 4:02.87.

Team member Jasmine Hill also set a school record in the 500 meter dash and qualified for the State Championship. This topped her own school record set two weeks ago. It was her third record of the week, as she ran a Mount Vernon school record in the 300 meter dash on Tuesday, which automatically qualified her for the Northern Region Championships.

The 4x200 meter relay team of Brianna Coleman, Kaleigh Winner, Jasmine Hill and Alliyah Stevens also ran the 2nd fasted recorded time in school history with a season best of 1:48.79

The team will compete this week at the National District championship, and will begin preparations for the State Championship to be held at Boo Williams in Hampton Roads at the end of the month and the National meet in March.
