Mount Vernon High School to Host International Baccalaureate Info Sessions

Parents of students interested in pursuing an IB diploma should attend.

Mount Vernon High School will host two info sessions to discuss the three elements of the International Baccalaureate Program: IB Middle Years Program (MYP), IB Diploma Program (DP), and the new IB Career-Related Certificate (IBCC).

IB Diploma Program coordinator Dan Coast, IBCC coordinator Berkeley McHugh, and MYP coordinator Karen Hertel will host two presentations in the MVHS Little Theater in February to discuss the IB classes and the IBCC.

  • Feb. 5 from 7 to 7:30 p.m., immediately following the Science Fair Awards presentations
  • Feb. 14 from 9:20 to 9:50 a.m., immediately following the Touch Base parent meetings

Mount Vernon High School has 195 students registered to take 421 IB exams this May, according to an email sent to parents. Many students will receive college credit for good exam scores at the colleges they plan to attend.

The parents of students planning to take IB classes should attend. Students at Mount Vernon High School are beginning the process of registration for classes for next school year. Any student planning to continue his or her formal education after high school should be considering taking some of the International Baccalaureate classes before high school graduation.

The International Baccalaureate Career-related Certificate (IBCC) is now available for rising juniors who plan to enroll in a two-year Career and Technology Education (CTE) course sequence their final two years of high school.

If you have a student attending MVHS next school year who plans to enroll in IB courses before graduating, consider attending this information session. You can also schedule an individual appointment with Coast sometime before the end of March to discuss IB diploma classes: DACoast@fcps.edu or 703-619-3137.  This is especially important if your student is thinking about pursing the IB Diploma.
