Snow Flurries Fall in Northern Virginia

Reports of snow flurries in Northern Virginia area; expect temps in the mid-30s this afternoon.

Snow flurries began to fall early Monday afternoon, taking Northern Virginia residents by surprise after this weekend's mild temperatures.

"A weak area of low pressure slipping by to our south has drawn up just enough moisture to produce some wet snow in our marginally cold air mass," the Capital Weather Gang reported this afternoon.

The heaviest snow will occur south of D.C., enough to coat grassy areas, but is not expected to accumulate on the roads, according to the Gang. Steady snow flurries have been reported in southern Fairfax County, Prince William County, and Fauquier County.
