Here are five things to know today in Mount Vernon.

1.  is tonight at the Belle Haven Country Club.
2. The Hollin Hall Senior Center is hosting a free presentation by dermatologist Dr. Joseph Kaufman on September 12. Private screenings will be offered after the presentation.
3. There are still openings to attend  on September 13 at Sherwood Regional Library.
4. The next Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting is on September 13. Before every meeting, the draft agenda is available online. Afterward, the official meeting summary, the final agenda and board package are available as well.
5. On this day in 1966, the "Star Trek" TV series premiered on NBC.
