Today is Eat Outside Day

Before you set yourself up with a picnic, read these five things to know in Mount Vernon.

  1. The southbound lanes of the Fairfax County Parkway in the Rolling Road area will be closing intermittently tonight and tomorrow night from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. for road work.
  2. Firefighters will distribute backpacks and school supplies tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Penn Daw Fire and Rescue Station 11.
  3. Fairfax County is offering up to $5,000 in matching grants for projects that enhance neighborhoods. There will be an information session at the South County Center on September 8 to explain the eligibility requirements and the application process. To find out more about the Neighborhood Enhancement Partnership Program, visit the website.
  4. See the Marketplace section of Patch for a listing of adjustable twin beds for sale and other classifieds. Or post your own listing for free.
