Today is World Humanitarian Day

Here are five things to know in Mount Vernon today.

1. There will be major road closures this afternoon and evening for the 9/11 Anniversary Ride. If you travel on Rt. 15, the Dulles Greenway, the Dulles Toll Road, or Interstate 66, see the traffic advisory for details.
2. The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic presented by Wiygul will take place on Monday, August 29, at the Belle Haven Country Club. Registration is available online.
3. Michaels is holding two in-store arts & crafts events on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
4. Today is National Aviation Day.
5. Today is World Humanitarian Day.
