Weekend Planner: Father's Day Events and More

Check out these events this Father's Day weekend.

Father’s Day Golf Tournament

  • Where: Burke Lake Golf Course, Fairfax Station
  • When: Saturday, June 16 from 8 a.m. – Noon (Rain date is June 25)
  • Why Go: Divisions include Father/Jr. 7 – 12; Father/Jr. 13 – 17; and Father/Adult Partner.  All divisions will award prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. 
  • Price: $60 per team (includes lunch) – Registration Required
  • Where: Woodlawn Plantation, Alexandria
  • When: Saturday, June 16 from 1 – 5 p.m.  (Rain date is June 17)
  • Why Go: Visit Historic Woodlawn Plantation for this special event.  Activities to include arts and crafts, face painting, farm activities and snacks. 
  • Price:  $5 per person; children 2 and under are FREE

Gum Springs Community Day

  • Where: Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Park, Alexandria
  • When: Saturday, June 16 from 1 – 5 p.m.
  • Why Go: Families will enjoy an afternoon of pony rides, moon bounce, live music and more.  There will also be more than 50 vendors with various items on display. 
  • Price: Admission is FREE

Old Town Arts and Crafts Festival

  • Where: Market Square, Alexandria
  • When: Saturday, June 16 from 1 – 6 p.m.
  • Why Go: This 32nd annual event will feature live music, vendors, art demonstrations, children’s activities and more.
  • Price: Admission is FREE

Father’s Day Weekend at Mount Vernon

  • Where: George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Alexandria
  • When: Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Why Go: Celebrate Father’s Day with the “Father of our Country”.  Dads will receive a free pass to George Washington’s Distillery and Gristmill with the purchase of estate admission.
  • Price:  Adults $15; Children 6 – 11 $7; Children under 5 FREE

Father’s Day Weekend Train Show

  • Where: Fairfax Station Railroad Museum, Fairfax Station
  • When: Saturday, June 16 from Noon – 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 17 from 1 – 4 p.m.
  • Why Go: Check out this special two-day train show presented by the Northern Virginia NTRAK group.  N track trains will be running and on display for your enjoyment.
  • Price: Adults $3; Children $1

Concert: Who’s on First Bass?

  • Where: Green Spring Gardens, Annandale
  • When: Sunday, June 17 at 1 p.m.
  • Why Go:  The Virginia Virtuosi will perform a family-friendly show featuring music by Rossini, Mendelssohn, Duke Ellington and more.   
  • Price:  $2 - $4 per person – Registration Required

Father’s Day Open House at Friendship Firehouse

  • Where: Friendship Firehouse Museum, Alexandria
  • When: Sunday, June 17 from 1 – 4 p.m.
  • Why Go: Take a special Father’s Day tour of this historic firehouse.  Dads get to be an honorary fire chief for a day, and kids get free fire hats. 
  • Price: $2 per person – Dads and Granddads are FREE

Lake Accotink Father’s Day Cruise

  • Where: Lake Accotink Park, Springfield
  • When: Sunday, June 17 at 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m.
  • Why Go:  Relax with Dad on a lake cruise while you learn about the history of the surrounding area.
  • Price: Dads $5; Other Adults $6; Kids 3 and up $5 – Reservations Required
