Weird monologue, weird poking incident, weird, weird, weird Virginia/DC.

Editor's Note: We began this feature in February and thought it might help you get over the mid-week hump. Patch has 31 sites in Virginia and D.C., and not a day goes by that something weird isn't happening in at least one of them. Here's a look back at some weird goings on over the past week.

For most areas close to D.C., the predicted 6 – 12 inches of snow turned out to be half an inch of slush and rain. But snow plow trucks were at the ready and working hard in Falls Church—.

It's not the kind of thing anyone wants to hear in the middle of the night. But some residents in Chantilly last weekend awoke to the sound of their garage door opening at 4 a.m. A purse was stolen and police searched the area using a helicopter and a K9 team but no one was found, according to Fairfax County Police officials. No word on how the burglar opened the garage door.

Laying an egg may not be the term most thespians want attached to their names, but in the case of Leesburg Animal Park’s Henrietta – a pure Buff Orpington hen that performed onstage this past week during the Nordic Cool 2013 Festival in Washington, DC – the words fit when she laid an egg in the middle of a performance.

Georgetown murder defendant Albrecht Muth made a series of assertions about his fast, his religious convictions and his position as an Iraqi General during a pretrial hearing Thursday. He told the court these would be his last statements in the public realm. "The curtain is coming down. I shall exit the stage quietly," Muth said as he ended a monologue over the phone from his hospital bed at United Medical Center.

A Manassas fisherman was poked in the chest repeatedly by a man who apparently opposed fishing in Summer Lake. The fisherman told Manassas Police he was fishing around 10 p.m. Monday when he was approached by a man he didn't know. and pushed and poked him in the chest repeatedly while the victim backed away from the lake, Manassas Police reports show.

File these under the cute category:

It’s still winter and animals are looking for places to stay warm. In Arlington, a resident took his car for an inspection and the mechanic found a squirrel’s nest under the hood. Animal Welfare League of Arlington wrote on their Facebook page:

The mother squirrel had chewed through wires, cables and the container of windshield wiper fluid. Check out what our animal control officers found when they arrived on the scene. The baby squirrels were removed from the nest and sent to a wildlife rehabilitator.

See video of the baby squirrels being removed from the car.

This one's adorable in a very Virginia/D.C. way: Virginia’s by letting Brett Wanamaker, of D.C., ask a very important question via Warner's Twitter account. Wanamaker wanted to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Warner’s press secretary, Beth Adelson. Knowing Adelson pays more attention to Sen. Warner’s Twitter feed than to her own personal Twitter account, Wanamaker proposed via Twitter by tweeting @MarkWarner.
