Feds Indict 24 Alleged Members of Bloods Street Gang

Federal authorities say two of the accused slashed a woman's face from mouth to ear after stealing drug money from the gang.

By Jamie Rogers
Twenty-four alleged members of the Nine Trey street gang, a subgroup of the Bloods street gang, were named in a recently unsealed federal indictment that claims the members were involved in several violent crimes, including slashing a woman's face from mouth to ear.

On April 1, 2010 when one of the gang members, "Snow" told Nine Trey members to give a female victim a "buck-fifty," meaning slashing her face from mouth to ear with the aim of requiring 150 stitches to close the wound.  The attack was punishment because she'd apparently stolen some of the gangs drug money, federal prosecutors said.

The slashing was carried out by Janee Yates and William Sykes, who are named in the indictment, prosecutors added.

The indictment also alleges that Nine Trey gangsters committed a shooting on April 12, 2010, after the shooting victims were involved in a dispute with other gang members.

The suspects named in the indictment beat and choked prostitutes when they refused to see customers or did not earn enough money and beat a fellow gang member to discipline him for trying to leave the gang, according to a press release issued by the office of Neil McBride, the U.S Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

If convicted, all 24 face life in prison. There is no parole in the federal system.
