Mount Vernon District Traffic Officer Tops in the State, Chiefs Say

Officer "demonstrated exceptional leadership" in the area of traffic safety.

The Virginia Association of the Chiefs of Police recently recognized Fairfax County Police Officer Michael D. Mittiga, who works in the Mount Vernon Police District, as Traffic Safety Officer of the Year for 2012.

The FCPD noted in a press release that

"PFC Mittiga demonstrated exceptional leadership in and dedication to traffic safety during the past year. In addition to managing station projects on child seat safety and pedestrian crossing awareness programs, he also cited a total of 1,610 summonses for traffic safety infractions; including the arrests of 142 reckless drivers, 51 felony arrests, and 404 seatbelt violations."VACP also honored the FCPD's Motor Carrier Safety Program with a "special award" for traffic enforcement efforts involving commercial vehicles and trucks.
