Two-Car Accident on Fort Hunt Road Sends One to the Hospital

Driver charged with reckless driving after sideswiping VDOT dump truck.

Around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Virginia State Police Sr. Trooper J.A. Hodik responded to a call of a two-vehicle crash on Fort Hunt Road near Sherwood Hall Lane in Alexandria.

According to VSP Public Relations Director Corinne Geller, a commercial truck was traveling north on Fort Hunt Road when it sideswiped a VDOT dump truck parked off the right side of the road.

During the collision, a large fiberglass cover came apart and flew off of the back of the truck. The fiberglass cover struck the front of a Fairfax County Connector bus, which was traveling south on Fort Hunt Road.

The driver of the bus was transported to the INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital with minor injuries. The passengers on the bus at the time of the accident were not injured.

The VDOT dump truck was properly positioned and had its amber flashing lights. activated. The driver of the commercial truck was charged with reckless driving.
