A Fun-Filled December at Fort Belvoir

Fort Belvoir has a great lineup of activities for military and their families.

Fort Belvoir is gearing up for the holiday season and has a month full of activities planned for military members and their families. All Department of Defense cardholders and their dependents are welcome to participate in Fort Belvoir's activities.

"Operation Sugarplum" is for soldiers' families E-1 through E-5 and civilian families GS1- GS7.

Food and retail gift cards are collected by ACS and distributed to qualifying families. If you would like to sponsor a family, contact Erica F. Drame at (703) 805-1833.

The housing areas are hosting holiday crafts for children who live within the neighborhoods, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. on the following days and locations:               

Dec. 2 – Fairfax Village Community Center

Army Entertainment, Family, and MWR Command are presenting "A Soldier's Christmas" at Wallace Theatre. It is a free event and tickets can be obtained at www.entertainment.armymwr.com

Showtimes are December 16, 17, and 18 at 7:30 p.m and December 18 and 19 at 2 p.m.

Here's a more detailed look at the Fort Belvoir calendar:     

  • December 1, 6:30 p.m. – Menorah Lighting at Fort Belvoir Chapel, with a reception following, in the fellowship hall of the chapel.      
  • December 1 and 2, 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. – Santa's Visiting – Register for your preschool through age 7 child to visit with Santa on one of these evenings.        
  • December 3, 4:30 p.m. – Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony – Come watch the lighting of the Post's Christmas tree at the corner of 12th Street and Belvoir Road.    
  •  December 3, 7:00 p.m. – Holiday Concert – Enjoy Christmas music at Wallace Theater following the tree lighting.       
  •  December 4, 8:30a.m. – Cut Your Own Christmas Tree – Head to Butler's Orchard with Outdoor Rec to find and cut your perfect tree.       
  • December 5, 7:30 p.m. – Handel's "Messiah" Part I – Fort Belvoir's combined choirs will perform this musical program at Belvoir Chapel. A reception will follow.        
  • December 9, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. – Golf Course Christmas Party and Sale – The golf course pro shop hosts a party with door prizes, a silent auction, appetizers and refreshments.        
  • December 11, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. – Monticello Wine-Tasting Trip  – Visit five Virginia wineries all decorated for the holidays. Outdoor Rec is sponsoring this event. The cost is $20 for transportation and pay-as-you-go at each winery.        
  • December 11, 12-3 p.m. – Boss Ice Skating – Single Soldiers ice skate for free at Pentagon Row Rink.         
  • December 11, 2:00 p.m. – Radio City Music Hall Spectacular – Join Leisure Travel Services as they travel by bus to New York to see The Rockettes preform. The cost is $150 per person and includes tickets and transportation.
  • December 11, 4-8 p.m. – Phone Home for the Holidays – DFMWR and the USO are hosting a spaghetti dinner with Santa Claus. There will be a walk- through gingerbread house, face-painting, cotton candy, and more at the Fort Belvoir Community Center.       
  • December 14, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – BOWC Holiday Luncheon – Belvoir Officers Wives Club is meeting at the O Club for lunch. Baked cookies will be collected for BOSS as well as gift cards for Operation Sugarplum.     
  • December 19, 10 a.m. – 1:30p.m. – Brunch With Santa – The Officers' Club annual "Brunch with Santa" features a large brunch buffet and photos with Santa. The cost is $21.95/person for non-members and $20.95 for members. Children are half-price. Reservations are recommended.     
  • December 22, 6 p.m. – Boss Holiday Dinner – A free holiday dinner for single soldiers is sponsored by Honey Baked Ham.         
  • December 24, 8 a.m. -  Breakfast with the Angels  - Sponsored by Fort Belvoir Chapel, held in the religious education center.     
  • December 31, 6 p.m. – 1 a.m. – New Year's Eve Gala – The Officers' Club will host a night of dinner and dancing for New Year's Eve. $80 per person, reservations are recommended.
