How to Register to Vote in Fairfax County

National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday. Make sure you are registered or your current registration is valid before the Oct. 15 deadline.

If you haven’t yet registered to vote, the deadline is just a few weeks away.

Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day, and thousands of local, state and national organizations are mobilizing to make sure millions of people don’t miss the chance to cast their vote in this year’s elections. There are already more than 717,000 registered voters in Fairfax County, according to August statistics from the State Board of Elections.

Nationwide, an estimated 6 million people didn’t vote in the 2008 elections because they either did not know how to register or because they missed the voter registration deadline.

The voter registration deadline in Virginia this year is Oct. 15.

Fairfax County's website has a lot of useful information for people who need to register or have questions about whether their current voter registration is valid. If you have moved from the address on your voter registration card or changed your name, you need to re-register. (Instructions on how to do so are here.)
