'Libraries Are Sacred Space'

Hundreds attended a meeting on controversial proposed changes to the Fairfax County Public Library system.

An overflow crowd of over 200 people attended a Fairfax County Library Board of Trustees meeting at George Mason Regional Library in Annandale Wednesday night.

The Board voted to suspend their strategic plan, starting with a pilot program that would reduce staff, consolidate help desks and hire more staff that do not hold Master of Library Science degrees.

Kathy Kaplan, of the Fairfax County Council of Citizens Association, and Jane Ampah, of the Fairfax County Public Library Employees' Association, were among the five people who spoke before the Board in opposition to the program.
