UCM Course on Healthy Teen Relationships

Since 2006, February has been observed as an important time to raise awareness about the serious issue of dating violence. In the spirit of dating violence awareness and prevention month, UCM's Sacramento Neighborhood Center will sponsor a free workshop about dating violence in an effort to promote healthy relationships among teens.

This workshop, which will be hosted by UCM's TeenSpace youth leaders representing the Sacramento and Creekside communities, will be held at the Sacramento Neighborhood Center on Saturday February 12, 2011, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. UCM's community neighborhood center representatives will work with some of our area's most powerful presenters that day to engage and help local teens who may be at risk of encountering an unhealthy dating relationship and/or who may have already experienced one.

This workshop will also feature a group discussion for adults/parents in a separate room with specialists from Fairfax County's Office of Prevention.

The workshop will begin with an 11 a.m. brunch followed by the showing of a short eight minute video created by TeenSpace youth members. The video is entitled, "Teenage Diamonds In The Rough." Adult and teen participants can also expect to hear real life testimonies from local survivors of dating and domestic violence.

To reserve your seat for this event, adults/parents may email their name and phone number to Sally.waller@ucmagency.org.
