FCPS Issues Decision for Thursday School Schedule

What did FCPS decide about school Thursday, after snow and ice hit the area this week?

With a winter storm and sub-freezing temperatures closing FCPS schools for two days this week after the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, will schools be closed again on Thursday?

Here's the official word from FCPS Wednesday night:

Fairfax County public schools will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 23. Offices will open on time. The following activities in schools and on school grounds are canceled:

  • extracurricular activities
  • interscholastic contests
  • team practices
  • field trips
  • middle school after-school programs
  • professional learning and training courses
  • all adult and community education classes
  • recreation programs and community use by outside groups not affiliated with FCPS

School Age Child Care (SACC) centers are closed.

Somewhat less officially, word came down earlier in the evening from school board members Ryan McElveen (at-large) and Springfield board member Elizabeth Schultz:

Breaking: wishes granted. Some at least. All #Fairfax County Public Schools will be closed Thursday, January 23rd. #FCPS
