Five Washington Mill Elementary Teachers Recognized for Professionalism

Five teachers will be honored with 2012 FCPS Excellence Awards Thursday night.

Five teachers at will be honored with the prestigious Fairfax County Public Schools' Excellence Awards at the school board meeting on Thursday night.

Sixth-grade teachers Forrest Chilton, Nancy Hawkins, Ray Hoskie; fifth grade teacher Matthew Hayes, and fourth grade teacher Christoph Hill will be recognized for their professionalism and dedication to teaching. They are the only Cluster 4 teachers to be recognized for this award.

All teachers will be honored as sixth grade teachers, said WMES Principal Tish Howard. The group is unique in that two of the teachers are permanent sixth grade teachers, while the others rotate between fourth, fifth, and sixth grade, the only school in Fairfax County to do so. Chilton also teaches a single-gender classroom.

"I'm very proud of them," said Howard.

Kudos to this fine group of educators. Well done and well-deserved. I'm especially thrilled to see my son's former 6th grade teacher -- Forrest Chilton, singled out. Hands-down, Mr. Chilton is one of the best teachers we have come across in FCPS.

Just another example of the exceptional teachers we are so fortunate to have at WMES. Glad to see them all recognized!
