Mount Vernon High School Students to Appear on C-SPAN Monday

The C-SPAN Bus will make a stop at Mount Vernon High School.

Mount Vernon High School students will have the opportunity to participate on C-SPAN's Washington Journal call-in program via Skype on Monday morning when the C-SPAN Bus makes a stop at MVHS.

Students will learn about C-SPAN’s programs and resources by touring the C-SPAN Bus during a stop on its tour to promote a new original series called First Ladies: Influence and Image, airing on Monday nights at 9 p.m.

From Martha Washington to Michelle Obama, C-SPAN will present a closer book at the lives and legacies of each of the first ladies. The C-SPAN Bus marks its 20th year on the road by stopping at key historic places in the first ladies' lives, promoting C-SPAN’s educational and political resources for students, teachers and community members along the way, according to a press release.

Students participating in the Washington Journal program will have an opportunity to ask questions of a guest relating to a public affairs topic.

Visitors will learn about the C-SPAN's programming and resources through interactive technology such as:

  • In-depth public affairs event coverage and educational outreach
  • Touch-screen quizzes on the three branches of government, current events and first ladies
  • Online video offerings through C-SPAN’s Video Library and Congressional Chronicle, including archives dating back to 1987
  • Social media networking including Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, YouTube, XM Radio and mobile apps

Tune in to Washington Journal to see the Mount Vernon High School students on Monday from 8:30am - 9:15am. In Mount Vernon, C-SPAN can be seen on channel 41, C-SPAN2 on channel 42, and C-SPAN3 on channel 43.
