Mount Vernon Girls Basketball Trounces Stuart 103-12

Lady Majors celebrate tenth consecutive win

As the regular season winds down for winter sports teams, many are making a final push to finish strong before district tournament play commences. Here’s a round-up of sports highlights from Alexandria and southern Fairfax County.

Mount Vernon:

Mount Vernon girls’ basketball scored a season-high 103 points against Stuart on Jan. 12, to win its tenth consecutive game. The Lady Majors’ 103-12 victory was its highest scoring game in at least eight years

West Springfield:

Both the Spartans boys and girls swim teams suffered their first defeat of the season on Jan. 14 against Woodson in a highly anticipated meeting of undefeated teams.

Robinson:

Oakton defeated the Lady Rams 62-42 on Jan. 13 and handed Robinson its first Concorde District loss.

T.C. Williams:

T.C. Williams boys’ basketball fell 60-56 to Lake Braddock on Jan. 13 and 60-57 to Riverdale Baptist on Jan. 14. 

West Potomac:

The Wolverines boys’ basketball team moved to 10-3 on the season following a 71-49 road win at Lee on Jan. 13.

South County:

South County boys’ basketball snapped a two-game losing streak on Jan. 10, defeating T.C. Williams 52-42.

Hayfield:

The Lady Hawks basketball team grabbed their fourth win of the season on Jan. 12 with a 64-33 win over Falls Church.

Edison:

Edison girls’ basketball picked up two wins last week. The Eagles defeated Hayfield 53-40 on Jan. 9 and Washington-Lee 47-31 on Jan. 12.

Annandale:

The Lady Atoms basketball team extended their win streak to five with a 60-33 victory over Lake Braddock and 63-44 win over South County last week.
