Photos: MVHS Hosts Community Pep Rally

Mount Vernon and West Potomac High students came out to show their support for their schools.

Students, parents, and athletes gathered Wednesday night in the Michael Skinner Field House at for a community pep rally.

MVHS and West Potomac High School athletes, students, and faculty members participated in games including touch football, chair races and a dance-off with both school mascots.

The community pep rally began as a way to bring together the Mount Vernon and West Potomac communities, MVHS Principal Nardos King said.

"We're rival schools, but we don't have to not like each other," King said. "We should be supporting each other's communities."

King hopes the pep rally becomes an ongoing tradition.

School starts Sep. 4 in Fairfax County.
