PHOTOS: Woodlawn Little League Kicks Off 2012 Season

Woodlawn Little League hosted its 47 annual opening day Saturday, April 14.

Little league is all about the kids, so let’s leave the best for last!

The Woodlawn Little League Board invited a few VIPs and were joined on the Diamond of Field #2 by Delegate Scott A. Surovell (D-44), District 9 Little League Administrator, John Donaldson, Good Shepherd Catholic Church Deacon Chris Ryan, Cub Scout Troop 1503 Leader Chris Pegher and troop members who presented the colors.

Steve Summa, long time player, manager, board member, parent, fan and icon of the Woodlawn Little League community came up to the mound for the ceremonial first pitch to his son and Juniors WLL player, Dawson Summa.

Uncle Slam, mascot of the Potomac Nationals helping us promote our Woodlawn Little League Day with the Potomac Nationals on June 10.

Woodlawn Little League President Pat Cooney introduced members of the board, introduced speakers encouraged the kids, thanked our umpire crew and then handed over the microphone to each League VP to introduce this year’s teams.

This year, Woodlawn Little League has approximately 265 enrolled kids in the Woodlawn/Mount Vernon area filling out 23 teams. As teams were announced, they stormed onto the field to tag home plate for the first time of the season.

A delightful day, wonderful play, good food and a lot of smiling kids!
