Hours before Thursday's 2013 Hooters Wing-Eating Championship, Alexandria's Sony "The Black Widow" Thomas explained her reason for participating in competitions to eats pounds upon pounds of food.

"I love to eat, and I'm very competitive," she said. "I've always liked it because it's like a sport. Some years ago, I saw a competition on TV and I figured I would give it a try. So I got into it because I can eat and I don't get full and it doesn't bother me."

According to Thomas, no food touches her lips before she participates in a contest. Unfortunately, Thomas' incessant appetite and seemingly bottomless stomach wasn't enough for Joey Chestnut in the recent wing-eating contest in Clearwater, Fla., where Chestnut retained his title as top wing eater.

Thomas said she continuously works on her speed by competing in multiple contests, staying active and watching her diet to improve her eating skills.

Thomas came in fifth place in the competition, eating 128 wings in ten minutes. Chestnut devoured 179 wings and won $6,000 for out-eating 14 other contestants.

At the beginning of July, Thomas won the 2013 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island.
