The September Issue

I hope everyone had a relaxing summer with family and friends!

It’s September and that means a season of new beginnings – from school children heading back to the classrooms to our Jewish neighbors and friends celebrating the new year and Rosh Hashanah. Autumn is right around the corner and the weather is cooling down. Here in the 36th senatorial district of Virginia things are picking up as we head into a busy season of commission meetings and gathering legislation for 2014, which will be here before we know it!

First, I want to add to the many people and groups who remind us all that as children go back to school, we need to be alert as children cross streets to get to and from school and on and off school buses. A few extra seconds of patience will always pay off.

We have had beautiful weather this summer, but September brings us to the most active part of hurricane season. Make an emergency preparedness kit and go over tips and information with your kids. It will make a great, and educational Saturday morning great family activity. Information can be found on both Prince William County and Fairfax County websites:

In case you don’t get Senator Mark Warner’s wonderful constituent newsletter, I would love to share some exciting news! Senator Warner met with U.S. Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki, and requested the VA thoroughly review the William & Mary law school Puller Clinic. The VA did and has certified the Center as an official "approved partner" in preparing and submitting VA disability claims. The Puller Clinic is the very first in the country to earn this special VA designation and it makes me, and my family, very proud.

This month will take me to Richmond several times for meetings of the Joint Commission on Health Care, the Disability Commission, the Board of Veteran Services and the Joint Commission on Technology & Science. I will also be traveling around my district meeting with people and researching prospective legislation for next year.

As always, if you are a constituent having difficulty with a state agency, please do not hesitate to contact my office for assistance. I can be reached by email: district36@senate.virginia.gov or by phone: 703-765-1150. And don’t forget to keep up to date with me on my Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/tpuller
